Adam Townsend is a marketing professional with background in SEO, multimedia production, high-volume content production and thought leadership.

During his career as a beat and investigative reporter in Southern California, West Virginia, and Ohio, Townsend received various awards and accolades. He wrote stories about subjects as varied as nuclear energy; the Sinaloan drug cartel's U.S. operations; missing persons and murder investigations; and the collapse of the U.S. steel industry. He became a sought-after panelist to discuss news topics on radio and television in San Diego.

From the beginning of his career as the youngest bureau chief at his local newspaper, Townsend has a long history of managing and launching successful publishing operations.

Dining and Hospitality News and Lifestyle Journalism

Townsend’s reporting and management launched the OCRegister’s AroundDisney blog in 2009, bringing millions of visitors and providing a level of scrutiny the Disney corporation wasn’t used to in Anaheim.

Townsend also covered restaurants and restaurant news in Orange County, contributing to the Register’s food blogs in addition to his work covering the Disney Resort.

Building Digital Publishing Brands

An aggressive program of community outreach and marketing events coupled with hard-nosed, high-quality reporting helped him make AOL’s SanClemente Patch a vital (and profitable) part of the community. And it was Townsend’s expertise that fueled the launch and growth of the WebMD-owned MedicineNet news operation in 2019 to hundreds of thousands of UVs.

Event Production, Non-Profit Branding and Promotion

Townsend’s keen sense of audience, drama and showmanship coupled with his marketing expertise have made every major event he’s planned a success. From small music concerts, to a charity theatrical production that raised thousands for abused women, to two successful charity golf tournaments that grossed tens of thousands of dollars to fight homelessness. Whether you need to plan and staff trade show and festival booths or corporate holiday parties with more than 100 guests, Townsend has the expertise and attention to detail to make any marketing event a success.

Consumer Medical Content Expertise

Starting 2013, he helped manage WebMD-owned sites’ vast array of medical reference information. In his role as senior content producer, Townsend edited and published thousands of detailed articles by medical doctors explaining diseases, pharmaceuticals, and health trends. He remotely trained doctor-writers in India and helped launch the medical news operation.

During that time, Townsend built up his marketing expertise creating great content for freelance clients — writing, editing, web development, illustration, design and photography. The diverse client list included construction firms, authors and heavy metal bands, among others.

Building an Enterprise-Level B2B Marketing Operation

In 2021, Townsend took the reins as marketing manager for SkillsetGroup, an Orange County/Los Angeles based staffing firm. This was the first firm to fully take advantage of Townsend’s talent. He managed hybrid vendor/in-house teams to deliver a top-notch enterprise marketing operation. Projects included:

• Website design, content and SEO;

• Photography and videography;

• Social medial strategy and execution;

• PPC ad campaigns;

• Print product procurement and standardization;

• Retail signage design and procurement;

• Sales decks and other digital materials; and

• Event production and non-profit fundraising.

Working closely with the CEO and CMO, Townsend had his hands in building out all aspects of SkillsetGroup’s marketing operation.

In 2022, the Townsends added a boy and girl to the family; the twins were born in April.

After some soul searching, the Townsend family in 2023 pulled up stakes in California and left for Ohio. The Buckeye State is Adam and his wife’s ancestral home; the two met as journalism students at Ohio University. Adam Townsend lives in Gahanna (in the Columbus metro area) with Laura Lee Bloor Townsend, MFT and their three children Avery, Maddox and Rhys.
